As a seasoned traveler, I’ve always been drawn to exotic destinations that offer a unique blend of culture, history, and luxury. Recently, I had the pleasure of staying at Riad Chbanate in Essaouira, Morocco, and I can safely say that this hidden gem is one of the most charming and culturally rich places I’ve ever visited.
Located in the heart of the old Medina of Essaouira, Riad Chbanate is a lavish riad that was built in the 18th century by an affluent merchant family. Upon arriving, the first thing that struck me was the grandeur of the riad’s interiors with its intricately tiled mosaics, arches, and ornate hand-carved cedarwood ceilings. The ambiance is truly authentic, and it’s not hard to imagine the affluent family who once resided here.
Riad Chbanate has five elegant suites, each painstakingly restored to maintain its original grandeur. The rooms are spacious, air-conditioned, and feature en-suite bathrooms with rain showers. The decor is elegant and blends traditional Moroccan elements with modern amenities, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere.
One of the most impressive things about Riad Chbanate is its welcoming and attentive staff. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with a warm smile and offered a refreshing glass of mint tea. The riad manager, Fatima, was extremely knowledgeable about Essaouira’s history, culture, and cuisine. She was always available to assist with any inquiries and went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
Essaouira is a charming coastal town, known for its amazing seafood, white-washed walls, and vibrant souks. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Essaouira boasts a colorful history which dates back to the Roman times. The town was a major port for trading gold, ivory, and slaves. Today, visitors can explore the charming backstreets of the old town, visit the bustling souks, and take a stroll along the beach or the picturesque harbour.
The riad offers a range of activities from cooking classes to horse riding, a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. One of my favorite activities, though, was simply lounging by the rooftop pool, soaking up the sun, and enjoying a magnificent view of the town and the sea.
Overall, my stay at Riad Chbanate was a truly unforgettable experience. The riad offers a perfect blend of culture, luxury, and hospitality, making it a hidden gem worth exploring. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience Essaouira’s rich culture and luxurious charm.
